NPR : Study Cites Risks of Weight Gain for Mothers

A new study shows that even just a seven-pound weight gain for a woman between her first and second pregnancies can compromise the health of the mother and her second child. The study finds that women who breast feed not only lose weight, but reduce the risk of diabetes.

Good news, diabetics! No, there isn’t a new gadget to magically make all delicious foods sugar free, but there is a new cellphone out that can manage your diabetes easily and conveniently. This phone, from the folks at HealthPia, is essentially a cellphone and glucometer. It will measure blood sugar levels, record and send results to yourself and others and even manage your meal plans.

Diet control is an important part of the diabetes treatment. There are certain do’s, and not to do’s as far as eating is concerned for a diabetic patient. Eating wrong food is as good as wrong medication in diabetes. You have a lifetime to suffer, for your negligence on this count.

The foods that are unacceptable are those containing sugar like molasses, corn syrup, all white breads, rice products, millet, corn, bananas, watermelons, raisins, potatoes, carrots, beets, alcohol, beer and all liquor except red wine. You need to take care of your diabetic child as it has significant emotional and physiological impact on his or her life. Your child’s daily routine, good and bad habits, forgetfulness and outright disregard for things that should be done, can all be supervised at home. However, situation is different at school.
